Adventures in Dog Photography

I’m not a photographer. Far from it, actually. I’m still trying to figure out all those buttons and gizmos on the camera! But, I love taking and sharing photos of my dogs, so it’s something I plan to spend more time working on. Tonight’s snapshot of Jax in his super-special, custom Thanksgiving costume was taken with an IPhone and is just a fun peek at what Thanksgiving has in store for the furry ones.

I love the concept of good dog photos, and have a lot of ideas floating through my head, so we’ll see what happens.

In the meantime, I’ve found an excellent costume maker for the dogs, which will mean a lot of fun and effort taking photos of them in their hilarious, silly, adorable outfits and sharing them with our little community both here, and on Facebook.

Just trying the costumes on each dog tonight was awesome, and we had a lot of laughs over them. Jax really can wear a hat better than any dog or human I’ve ever seen. What a boy!

Don’t worry, I’m already plotting for Christmas. Holidays are a wonderful opportunity to do something not only fun, but memorable.

My boyfriend and I have been together over four years now, and for our first Christmas together, I snuck a photographer into his house while he was at work, and had professional portraits taken of his crazy little Miniature Pinscher. Wearing  a bow tie. We had one printed on canvas, the other two in the usual fashion, and I presented them to Robert on Christmas. Of course he was surprised, and he loves them. They cover half a wall in his living room so that no one can walk through the door without seeing his little guy.

Someday, hopefully a very long time in the future, those potraits will be a precious memorial to someone he loved very much, and to me, that is the true magic of photography.

I’ll keep working on it, and with any luck, I will manage to capture something memorable, too.

xoxo
